International Moving Paperwork and Preparation
The most important thing to remember is that every country has slightly different customs requirements and prohibitions (what you can and cannot ship). Your Cassidy’s representative will need to give you the specific paperwork and requirements for your destination country and personal situation.
You will need to have your work or student visa in order before you contact Cassidy’s. We will start by visiting your home to review your possessions and provide you with a free moving estimate.
- There are two ways to ship overseas: by air or by sea. Most people choose to ship by sea because air freight is about 3 times the cost.
- Total travel time for shipping by sea is approximately 2 to 4 weeks (depending on when an available ship is scheduled to leave for your destination country). Shipping by air usually takes 1 to 2 weeks.
- All international shipments must be prepaid prior to leaving Canada.
- Once your visa is in order, you can make your booking with Cassidy’s. We can pick up your shipment at any time, but it may take up to one month for the shipment to leave the port.
- Unlike moves to the United States, the customs paperwork for international moves can be filled out after you make your booking with Cassidy’s. This is because of the longer turnaround time on shipping by sea.
Moving Services and Moving Day Logistics
Cassidy’s international moving services include loading, all transportation stages, and arranging for your container to be unloaded at your new home.
